Background
Fire is one of the most common hazards, the threat of fire exists in every workplace and the potential for loss of life in the event of a fire is significant.
Well designed fire safety procedures are essential to translate the requirements of fire risk assessments and into safe working practices. Of equal importance is the quality of training, experience knowledge and competence of the persons who are required to assist the evacuation.
This course is aimed at those persons appointed to assist the evacuation process; often called Fire Wardens or Marshalls. The Fire Marshall/Warden evacuation method is very effective and simple to operate. The Responsible Person, divides the workplace into discrete areas, i.e. floors of a building, then appoints an authorised, trained fire marshal to be responsible for assisting the evacuation process in that area. When the alarm sounds, the fire marshal, ensure everyone evacuates, deals with a reluctant or nervous escapees and then carries out a check to ensure the area is clear. They can then report to the allocated assembly point and report to the fire evacuation coordinator that their area is clear.
Other fire evacuation methods exist; such as the roll call system, where everybody evacuates to an assembly point when the alarm sounds, however such systems do not ensure a clearance check, nor can people be helped to evacuate.
The fire warden/marshal system is by far the most effective system for most organisations and this course will ensure that those persons will be able to operate the system efficiently and effectively and with confidence.
