Course Price
£590 + VAT (plus reasonable tutor expenses) for an in house course of up to 12 people. Currently all of our courses are being delivered via Zoom online, face to face with experienced expert tutor, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
However “in house” face to face courses can be arranged subject to Covid-19 controls being applied.
If you’re an individual anywhere in the world and requiring isolation training, I can also offer this course on a one-to-one basis via Zoom and include all course documentation electronically for £250.00 per person. All you require is enthusiasm and a good internet connection for a great individual learning experience.
Background
Failure to isolate hazardous energy sources during the use and repair of machinery and equipment has resulted in many serious workplace injuries and fatalities. High standards of isolation and rigorous management control are required for plant isolation and reinstatement, particularly in major hazard industries.
This course provides guidance on the general principles of safe isolation. It describes how to isolate plant and equipment safely, and how to reduce the risk of releasing hazardous substances during activities such as maintenance and sampling operations.
Course Aim
To assist those required to isolate hazardous energy sources:
· Understand and appreciate the importance of isolation
· Understand and be able to identify the hazards associated with equipment and machinery.
· Carry out isolation in a safe and secure manner within the principles of lock, tag and test using a simple isolation procedure.
Who Should Attend
Persons required to isolate hazardous energy sources, also operational managers who are responsible for their companies’ isolations systems and for the health and safety professionals who have to advise them.
Objectives
On completion of the course, delegates will:
· Understand the reasons for isolation procedures and the consequences of failing to ensure secure isolations.
· Understand and be able to identify the hazards associated with machinery and equipment.
· Understand the principles and terminology associated with isolation schemes.
· Understand the essential requirements of isolation schemes.
· Understand how to select the most appropriate isolation scheme, proportionate to the risks involved in the work activity.
· Be able to understand and apply a simple isolation procedure within a safe system of work, permit to work or a local “lock, tag and test” (personal) isolation scheme.

The course will introduce a simple isolation scheme and its use and relevance in relation to safe systems of work and permit to work schemes.
Course Duration
The course is delivered over 1 Day, normally 09.00 till 16.30, with break and lunch at convenient times.
Course Assessment
The course is assessed by a 20 multiple-choice questions covering the course content. A certificate is awarded on completion of the course.
Course Tutor
This course is delivered by Phil Douglas who has over 20 years experience in industry of designing, implementing isolation schemes. Phil spent 12 years in the mining industry managing manpower, materials and resources and health and safety as a mines manager and was responsible for and supervised isolation in safety critical environments such as mine shafts and coal faces.
Phil has also personally trained every authorised isolator in British Sugar plc since 2007 and has won an award for the quality of the training and its affect in reducing accidents and improving the safety culture within the company.

Saving time and money! The course documentation is worth more than the course itself, and a good reason to arrange a course and assure you and your company, that this area is being managed.
