Course Aim

It's designed to give workplace managers and supervisors the information they need to help them manage health and safety and the work of others.

Who Should Attend

Managing safely is for managers and supervisors in any sector, and any organisation.

Objectives

At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Apply basic management principles and practices to health and safety issues as part of a total business strategy.
Set practical health and safety objectives, plan and implement courses of action to achieve those objectives.
Recognise safety and health hazards present in the workplace.
Ensure adequate information, training and supervision is provided.
Investigate incidents and take remedial action.
Understand and implement their legal responsibilities.

Content of Course

The course comprises eight core modules.

Module 1 Introducing managing safely.
Module 2 Assessing risks.
Module 3 Controlling risks.
Module 4 Understanding H & S responsibilities.
Module 5 Identifying hazards.
Module 6 Investigating accidents and incidents.
Module 7 Measuring performance.
Module 8 Protecting our environment.

Course Duration

The course is delivered over 4 Days. An 'in house' course can be delivered over a period of time provided all 4 days are covered and the test is completed.

Examination Information

The course is assessed by:

A short written/objective multiple-choice paper.
A project, which takes the form of a careful examination of your work environment and a risk assessment.

Delegates, who attend and successfully complete both the practical and written assessments, will be awarded the Managing Safety certificate, issued by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in the UK.

The practical assessment must be completed in the delegate's workplace and submitted within two weeks of completing the course. A minimum pass grade of 70% is required for certification.
