NEBOSH Certificate Examination Information
The NGC has two unit assessments:
Unit NG1: Management of health and safety - this assessment is based on Units 1 - 4 and is an open book exam, it is taken by logging into an internet portal on the exam day at 11.00 am, downloading a question paper and an answer template (in Microsoft work), and then a 24 hour window starts in which to complete the exam and upload it for marking. NEBOSH advise this should take about 3 hours, however 24 hours is available, and the exam can therefore be completed in small stages as required, provided it is uploaded within the 24 hour deadline.
Unit NG2: Risk assessment - This is a risk assessment practical undertaken in your own time with a full guidance document and template to work to. This unit, assesses NEBOSH Elements 5 to 11 and is called Unit NG2.
Learners sitting both exams must achieve a ‘Pass’ in each unit in order to be awarded the qualification. Please note you will will have five years to complete the qualification. The five-year period starts from the date that you pass your first successful unit (this is called the ‘declaration date’). Any unit that is five or more years old will not count towards the qualification.
If you fail a unit (NEBOSH call this a refferal) you can re-sit a unit.
There is no limit to the number of times a learner can re-sit unit(s) within the five-year period. A refund will not be given if the learner registers to re-sit a unit before an original unit result is known. If the learner’s re-sit result is lower than the original mark, they will keep the original mark awarded for the unit. Re-sit marks are not capped.
Following completion of the exam, NEBOSH also have a requirement for a closing interview with your tutor. This is to give assurance that the Open Book Examination (OBE) submitted by the learner is their own original work, which they have produced without any improper assistance.
The closing interview is not an assessment and the outcome does not contribute to the learner’s overall grade. It is not a marked examination.
